Here we go- back after a long, far too long, wait. One of the Yarra Valley's finest producers was badly hit by the fires of Black Saturday in 2009 but you can’t hold a good winery down especially when their winemaking skills are so far advanced. The Diamond Valley runs parallel to the Yarra, north of Melbourne. Their wines are rounded, ripe and aged in oak in a delicious Australian style. They are “an outstanding winery capable of producing wines of the highest calibre” according to James Halliday. Here’s their most recent Shiraz, the regional selection Shiraz, which has incredible £ for £ punching power, its classy, distinct style shows great style and flavour. Crystal-clear varietal character. medium red-purple fruits in the glass then a fragrant bouquet with berry, mint and a touch of leaf which is reflected in the fresh, medium-bodied palate following the same flavour track. It’s a richly flavoured Shiraz showing savoury spices, lovely contours and textured dark berry flavours. The Limestone Coast component adds even more  drinkability to the predominant Yarra valley fruit .The character and complexity here is superb. Try it with Rib steak to 2018
