·“The much-praised rival to the celebrated Cloudy Bay is well worth searching out – amazingly vibrant, luscious flavours of gooseberry, kiwi, grapefruit and green peppers coupled with palate-tingling freshness.” Tim Kirby The Independent “Top-notch.” Olly Smith Daily mail ·“Lively, rich and quite intense with aromas of blackcurrant and grassy green pepper. There’s some pear, apple and spice character, which balances richness and attractive greenness. Ripe, broad and stylish.” “Really full flavoured. Chalky, grapey, green pepper and passionfruit. Concentrated and rich with some sweet melon notes. There’s also herb and citrus character. Very intense and exotic, and also quite green, in a showy style. Archetypal Marlborough Sauvignon.”Jamie Goode, 92 points -- “Plenty of zesty, juicy, ripe fruit, yet real complexity and a long savoury, mineral finish.” Helen savage The Journal Newcastle ·“Has all that green hedgerow smell and taste you would expect.”Hull Daily Mail ·“ It‘s a more restrained style than in the past, owing to a cooler season, a lovely wine: fresh, focused and long with attractive gooseberry, pear and orange peel complexity.” Tim Atkin MW, 92 points ·“Fresh basil and spicy tomato leaves, tossed with tangy nosh pear and mandarin with a sprinkle of lemon zest? A wonderful smelling wine with a subtle flintiness that alludes to an underlying core of minerality. Mouth-watering and refreshing with a deliciously crisp yet luscious finish” Tim Morgan, Stuff TV “Fabulous, luminous stuff, with all the clarity you could hope for, a good dose of Marlborough punchiness, but subtle and relatively elegant too. Long and dry, and shimmering. 92 pts.” Tom Cannavan winepages

| Welcome to the future of Heathcote." Here’s a star Shiraz, watch out for this and hang on to your bootstraps. Greenstone Heathcote Shiraz releases are striding up in quality with every release since a wonderful first release back in 2005 Oz Wines are big on Shiraz – it’s our favourite variety and we’ve had our eye on this winery in Heathcote, one of Australia's premium Shiraz growing regions, for some time. Each of the 5 vintages released since the firstl 2005 vintage has received a minimum of 95 Halliday points and this is the dream vintage where conditions were so exceptional. Established by viticulturist Mark Walpole, it’s made by Alberto Antonini and both love Shiraz and fine Italian reds - so you get the style they attain too. Situated at 400m above sea level the cool climate and the ancient Cambrian ridge running through Heathcote provide unique deep red volcanic origin soil and copper infused rock known as ‘Greenstone’. This soil couples with the mild, dry climate to ensure ripe (but here essentially not over-ripe) ultra flavoursome Shiraz. And it makes it an ideal spot for Australia’s beloved Shiraz. So much so that when Mark Walpole (of old Brown Bros fame) first took Alberto, whom he knew through their shared interest in Italian grape varieties in Australia, to visit the Greenstone site Alberto was so struck by the quality of the soil and site he quickly declared “I’m standing on a hill in Heathcote that would make a great vineyard.” We heard the excitement when we first met the duo and the very first vintage declared more still the very high quality and huge promise of the first wines to come off the vineyard.
Huge depth and power but it maintains an almost quaint restraint and elegance- its only 13.5%abv. An exercise in refined power, like the iron fist in the velvet glove and velvet it is; the colour is excellent, the red and black cherry fruit aromatic and lively, the tannins smooth and fine grained, the oak perfectly balanced & integrated.
After a few hot, dry and generally challenging years from 2007 through 2009, the 2010 season was the dream vintage. The odd rain event throughout the growing season helped things along infact and grape quality was virtually perfect. Aged for 18 months in French barriques from the forests of Never and Jupilles, of which 20% was new oak, this proves a real step up in the already high quality of one Shiraz whose reputation is increasing at a startling rate with every new vintage. Flooded with layers of fully ripe fruit, notes of violet and earth adding complexity. The textured palate; a beautifully fine-grained one, is long, fine and gently savoury juicy and intensely flavoured regional black fruits- the long finish is with fine-grained tannins with excellent depth and clarity. It is a must try for lovers of articulate, contemporary Australian Shiraz, and fans of Italian reds and Aussie Shiraz. Drink now to 2034.
